The WMU, or Woman’s Missionary Union, is a ministry at Lighthouse Baptist Church to improve the awareness and availability of missions and discipleship. At Lighthouse, we often say, “We are missionaries.” Through the help of ministries like WMU, we can fulfill that statement.

WMU is:

Biblically rooted – Scripture guides us in knowing God, His ways, His character, His mission, His redemptive acts, and His purpose for the church.
Missions focused – Jesus commissioned His disciples to proclaim the good news, disciple people of all nations, and teach them to live out the truths He taught.
World aware – God is always at work among all peoples, and we join Him where we discern He is calling us.

Serving Opportunities

If you think WMU is only about sitting around reading about people you are never going to meet or attempting to pronounce almost impossible names, then you may have the wrong view of WMU.

Above all, at Lighthouse, we believe that you should have the opportunity to experience missions.

Examples of these opportunities are:

  • Care Cards
  • Packing Hygine Bags
  • Mission Rallies
  • Compassion Ministries
  • Serving at local, state, and national opportunities
  • Serving and participating in other ministries

Annie Armstrong Easter Offering

The story of Annie Armstrong begins with tragedy. She lost her father at a young age, followed by her brother a few years later.

She was burdened with a call to share the love of Christ, she felt with others in the midst of hardship. Miss Armstrong began to take action. She organized groups committed to prayer and fundraising for missions work. She wrote thousands of letters (literally) to encourage other believers to become active and involved in the mission of God.

In addition, Armstrong was honored in 1934 when The Home Missions Offering was re-named for Miss Armstrong to encourage more to follow her sacrificial example. Today, every dollar given to the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering supports thousands of missionaries across the U.S. and Canada.

Lottie Moon Christmas Offering

The Lottie Moon Christmas Offering® is an annual offering collected by believers worldwide to support international missions. As a result, the offering was officially named in 1918 by Woman’s Missionary Union in honor of the missionary to China who urged churches to start it and give sacrificially.
